Insurance at Team Building 3 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 2
Team building is becoming a very big business in China. But it seems that insurance coverage of facilities and centres is falling behind. I've heard of a few cases where staff at team building have had accidents at 3rd party facilities, but these facilities have not been insured, and therefore the staff member or company becomes out of pocket.

What is the legal requirement of facilities to protect their customers in China?

Personally, I am not aware of any legal requirements but I am sure there may be some policies and possibly _link_ed to the higher education standards.

As trainers we must put safety first amongst many when we are doing outdoor activities that involves a level of risk. Here are some of my own must-do's before and during such an activity:

1. Ensure that the activity's instructions are clearly understood by the participants.
2. Adequate facilitators are present and they too, understand the instructions.
3. Facilitators are vigilant - no good if they are busy talking amongst themselves.
4. Facilitators must stop and prevent people from doing things that are dangerous and wrong, by listening into the participants' discussions. They must also stop further discussions of performing such actions.

I think most large MNCs have some sort of insurance policies for their people during training events. There is a company that will insure people for 50 rmb a day in Shanghai, but I am not aware of any company providing such services in Guangzhou.

Hope we can all share more on this topic and make our training events happy and safe!

Liability insurance is definitely a new thing in China. Most bars are not insured, which is a major concern if there are fights. I know of patrons who have been beaten by bar staff but could claim their hospital expenses.

Insurance is a necessary evil.

I think the company was AIG or AIA. Not many companies provide insurance as it raises the training fees.
