I remembered the first time I went to Guangzhou. I was sixteen years old and I could always hear a common language(Cantonese) which I couldn't completely understand. It seems that Guangzhou people are very pround of speaking their own dialect.
The situation has changed when I visited Guangzhou again. Cantonese is not the only way to get you involved in this city. People speak Mandarin more often than usual and different dialects becomes popular among yong people, it might due to more and more people moving to Guangzhou. I think this is the necessary phase for Guangzhou to become an international city.
Similarly, this situation could happen in Shanghai or you may say it is being happening now.
A question just came up into my mind, what kind of language will be used in the future?
