Shanghai
It’s no
secret. We Chinese are overworked and crave a better work-life balance. And this
need to balance our family life with our work was highlighted in a recent MRI
China Group survey involving 2,265 Chinese employees aged between 25 and 37
years of age who listed “A work-life balance” as one of the three top
motivators to stay with a company. And since talent retention is one of the
most important issues in the ‘War for Talent’, it makes sense to align your
company’s strategy on reducing stress and giving your key staff more time with
their family. It is for this reason that Network HR has launched ‘Family
Friendly Weekend Getaways’.

Computer peripherals that will
increase your efficiency
Peripherals that connect to a CPU are a big
business. This is partially due to the
rise of business devises such as tablet PCs and the proliferation and
substitution of laptops. Convenience, ease of use, mobility, effectiveness, and
efficiency are the current buzzwords for the HR and business power user.
But while these business devices are continually growing smaller, input is still limited by the
size of the human had and its dexterity. The screens and keyboards might be
shrinking, but our hands have remained the same size. In the following article,
we take a look at some options for increasing the speed, accuracy, and
usefulness of your mobile computing.

The importance of character
Yew Chung International Schools
teach students the importance of social responsibility early on in the business
world. They are often described as having a corporate conscience, a
sustainable responsible business, or corporate citizenship. In short, it's
called corporate social responsibility (CSR).
CSR defines the
reputation of a business and is often gauged by the public's perception of a
company's morals, ethics and character. With a stronger emphasis on CSR,
businesses are increasingly seeking upstanding citizenry from their employees.
Job interviews today are not just used to determine an individual's
performance potential but are also a dialogue to assess a candidate's
character.

Recruitment Transparency
In the last issue of Network HR, Allan Nee of Baode Law in Tianjin wrote a detailed and insightful article about the ways in which your organisation needs to adapt to China's new Labour Laws. Allan offered a myriad of fantastic advice. However, there was one factor he mentioned that really captured my attention - transparency.Read More

The Power of Acknowledgement
he seeds of this article were sewn as I put together the last edition of Network HR. First, as I edited the Training & Development section, I read the following prophetic words from Jennifer Peterson, "If you want your customers to feel cared for, you must care for the employees that serve them." This started me musing about the way organisations across China treat employees.Read More

Synchronicity for Success
A single droplet of sweat trickled down my neck as the glowing amber sun beat down on us. I glanced out of the corner of my eye and saw our competitors lined up alongside us. It was the moment we had been preparing for over the last 5 years. Our goal was crystal clear and I had visualised this very occasion countless times.Read More

War, what is it good for?
I believe I can bring the War for Talent to a peaceful end. I came to this realisation two
months ago after I was invited to present at the ‘Corporate Travel and Technology
World' conference in Shanghai. The topic, "Selecting Potential Leaders and Turning a Company from Good to Great", was
provided some months earlier, giving me time to source opinions from
around China. Read More
