We've been hearing about the 'War for Talent' for at least a decade now, and I was wondering, that with this economic crisis reducing recruitment budgets isn't this the BEST time to recruit? After all, if less companies are recruiting, then the pool of real talent must be bigger than ever before.
I'd like to know your thoughts on this tactic.

This is definitely the right time to cherry pick. When businesses start to go down-hill the best people always leave first, so i'm sure there must be some great people looking around right now.

That is partly the irony of these situations. Firstly, we are still in that 'War for Talent' but most companies have cut recruitment to zero. Which companies are still employing?

I imagine that you could also get staff much cheaper this time of year too!

The problem currently is that staff morale is at an all time low. So, if you recruit now, you get staff who are 50% active and ready. Recruiting today is TOUGH!
I recommend recruiting after Chinese New Year. Many Chinese look at Late January, or early March as the months to recruit.
